Okay guys I know this isn’t the type of stuff I usually blog about but I’m a bit of Trekkie it just comes hand in hand with being a computer geek. Last night I went to see the premiere of Star Trek 2009 take on the 60s classic. The story is based on the Academy years of the original Star Trek crew ie Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones. This movie is in between the series Star Trek enterprise and the original 60s series, the new young characters are amazing they have been picked very well especially Spock all the original quirks and characteristics have been carefully brought over and maintained by the new characters.

This movie is by no means tacky the special effects and quality including the soundtrack are amazing, I believe this movie is going to be the start of a whole new series of movies. I dragged my wife along to this movie she is not much of a Star Trek fan she enjoyed Voyager but that’s about it, She very much enjoyed the movie, the storyline is a gripping it contains a love story, heartache, and very moving scenes along with the techie stuff.

I highly recommend this movie it’s been years since we’ve had a good Trekkie movie and tv series its about time they started catering for us guys and girls again, and I do think that this new movie may pave the way for a possible new tv series again in the future by building up a new generation of Trekkies.

Please feel free to contribute your views of the movie below in our comments section. Live long and prosper ;) .

Don’t live to work, work to live !

By Chris Brocklesby. Posted in Life Style, Living Online | No Comments »

The Four Hour Work WeekI have been inspired recently from a well-known book called the “four hour work week by Tim Ferriss” he has somewhat become to me my life idol. He talks about in his book how to not let life pass you by and the tie down to the drudgery of a 9-5 job, he explains how to work smarter and not harder. The book talks a lot about outsourcing, if you can outsource some thing that takes time and you’re confident someone else can do then do it, outsourcing is a really great way of freeing up time to allow you to enjoy life, be productive in another area and have skilled tasks completed by a professional.

I really think in today’s day and age everyone I know  just works like freaks, life is too short to be somebody else’s slave, my mum died a few years back she was very young and it made me think we do not have much time on this planet and I want to enjoy every minute of it. Unfortunately to live life to some degree you need an income, but why should you work your life away when the skills you have and the knowledge you have can be put to good use and make you money in half the time it would working not so smartly. What I mean by smartly is to know your limitations, set yourself a timescale and goal and keep to it, and don’t be afraid to pass work on to the professionals. What you should ask yourself is what is your time worth?

You don’t have to be a computer techy to works smartly you just have to set your goals and worked to them in the fastest and most productive way. Tim the author points out things that can make you less productive such as Email he answers it once maybe twice a day freeing up his time to be more productive in other ways. The title of the book I think is a bit misleading I think it would be very hard and take a long time to ever reach a four hour work week, but the principle of a book to enjoy life and to create more time for yourself is solid and can be done if you just think more smartly.

I have taken on a lot of Tim’s ideas and really have changed the way I view work set yourself small goals, I need to earn so much this month to do this. Work on your salary on a month to month basis he explains, stop thinking of annual salaries just enjoy life and earn money as you need it. Tim’s Teaching may not suit all but the underlying principle of the book I think it’s brilliant for people who want to improve their lifestyle and work around their life and not worked their lifes away.

The book is a good read a lot of things in it are common sense, but it makes you think and that’s what I think the goal of the book is, to make you think about your life and how to improve it for the better. Remember don’t live to work, work to live.

The four-hour workweek is a must buy for everyone you can buy it from all good book stockist and pretty much worldwide in multiple languages this was the New York’s best seller for quite a while. Here is a link to Amazon.com where you can buy the book and have it delivered to your door.

Can you make a living out of blogging?

By Chris Brocklesby. Posted in Living Online | 1 Comment »

Blogging ButtonHere is the question “Can you make a living out of blogging?” many people claim they can and they make a good living to. So how do they do it? Well the most basic and easiest way is Google’s Adsense, it’s not offensive, it’s clean, it integrates into your website and its a revenue that comes from a reliable source. But can you really make a living at blogging? With really good content (original content) a good blogging platform such as WordPress, good SEO techniques, and a selection of relevant and high-quality affiliate programmes… I would say yes it can be done, but it takes time, you need to build up your audience by providing good content and relevant content you need to drive traffic into your website using the selection of good SEO practices and you really need to provide something useful to the reader.

Many people fail at blogging because they have no or very little knowledge on the subject they are talking about, knowing your subject is key can help a great deal when you know what you’re talking about therefore you’re providing useful content to your reader. It makes it so much easier picking a subject that you’re passionate about and what you have knowledge about, I would have no joy talking about china dolls for example I have no interest in it and nothing to provide the reader with. If you’re going to blog as a full-time job it really should be about something that you’re passionate about otherwise the enjoyment will not be there and the drive that needs to succeed in this industry will not be there, so many blogs fail because of this.

So is the market to saturated for another blog? Well possibly, it really depends on what you pick as your subject. You really need to pick a niche to be successful in this game, I’m not saying that if your subject is already blogged about that you have no chance in success, because if you know more about the subject or can provide better  and higher quality content with good SEO techniques I would say you have a good chance to profit within time, it may take longer to build a name for yourself and get your content ranked correctly but it can be done.

Is there a long-term future in blogging? Well the Internet changes every day, new technologies and ideas are born, but if you use these news technologies and keep on top of all these new changes you can use them to your advantage, a popular example recently is Twitter a mini blogging service keeping your followers  updated by mini feeds (for example you could use this service to tell your followers when a new post is available to read on your blog). Another worry for bloggers is if their revenue stream dries up, have you ever heard of the saying “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” well that is also true in blogging don’t just have Google Adsense revenue have a few income streams, they are out there believe me.

Should I quit my job today and just concentrate on blogging? No no no, please don’t do that… As I said earlier most people fail at blogging, test the water tried talking about a few interests and see how many hits you get, start small as a hobby build up your article base and advertise and monitor your traffic.  You will know when it’s time to quit your job and concentrate on blogging when you’re making a side income that you are happy with, it will take time and you may not get their better least the now you have the relevant safety of a job whilst you experiment.

If you are looking start blogging I wish you the best of luck and hope that it can provide what you’re looking for out of this venture.

Ideas on how to advertise your site

By Chris Brocklesby. Posted in Marketing | 6 Comments »

Hello My Website is Here !

Creating a blog or website is the easy part, advertising it is a whole new other story. The most basic way of advertising your blog or website is by submitting it to the top search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft live, by doing this with search engines they will crawl your website and list your pages. But this way of advertising can be lengthy and if you don’t have the right keywords you will get no or very little traffic, registering with services like Google Webmasters Tools can help you can increase the traffic and optimise your website to increase your chances of your audience finding you.

Another way of advertising your website is social networking this is relatively new and can be timely but well worth it. Submitting your website article or topic to social bookmarking websites can be the fastest way of pulling traffic to your web site and creating a debate/comments on the topic or article you have written about. Another form of social advertising becoming very popular at the moment is Twitter this a form of mini blogging which can reach a wide audience with in seconds, with the right message such as “come and see my article on how to make money online” can pull in traffic by the truckload.

One of the oldest ways of bringing traffic to your web site is by submitting your website to relevant directories. The key here is that it has to be relevant to what you’re speaking about or the theme to your website, Google and the other search engines love back links that shows the search engines that other people/website owners respect to your content and your website is one of the authorities on the matter. Backlinking can drastically improve your rankings within the search engines and bring you traffic from the search engines on keywords which your readers are looking for, getting yourself ranked highly within the search engines and getting traffic via this method is called organic search engine traffic this is the type of traffic you want its free it means you’ve got the correct key words on your website and most importantly and yes again its free.

With more and more content appearing daily on the Internet it is becoming increasingly harder to get up there highly  in the search engines this means you producing high-quality content which the readers are looking for. Make sure you use keywords and are providing the reader with high-quality content which they are looking for, this will increase your chances of becoming a authority on the subject and making a income of your website.

Don’t be tempted in using what they call black cat methods in search engine optimisation and advertising, they may work out in the short term but in the long run you will all be caught and all the hard work you put in would have been to nothing, you want a website that pulls in readers gives you a pasive  income which will grow and flourish into something great over time. Remember it can take an awful long time for your website to become highly ranked, a authority in the subject and profitable, but hang in there if it’s well worth it once you have found your niche audience and have a successful website.

Another good way of advertising your website is by visiting other similar website which have communities (ie Forums  and commenting blogs) get involved answer questions, comments on articles and ask questions. Many sites allow you to have a signature at the bottom of your post in most cases you can include a hyperlink back to your website so interested readers can come to your website to read more, also this is a great method of increasing back links to your website helping your rankings within the search engines.

If you have a blog there are some really good plug-ins  that can link your website to communities such as FaceBook, Twitter  and a fairly new one Google’s Friends Connect this integrates your website with the already established communities and also gives your website a degree of credit being associated with some of the big guys. These plug-ins can create an enormous amount of traffic if used correctly also with plug-ins such as FaceBooks Login API  and Google’s friends connect it gives a degree of convenience to your reader allowing them to log in quickly and is a comment to your website increase in the content and the credibility of your website.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this article it was just to give some of you an idea of how to increase traffic to your web site, if any of you have any suggestions or any thing you would like to add please feel free to comment below and share your experiences with other readers.

Thanks for Reading

Apple’s blueprint to 3.0 is here!

By Chris Brocklesby. Posted in Technology | No Comments »

Apple's LogoWell it is that time again Apple has released a preview of their 3.0 operating system for the iPhone. They have released over 1000 API  for developers to get their teeth into, this will allow  a abundance of new Apple applications to be created. The new iPhone operating system has new features such as copy and paste, GPS, MMS and twitter, it is great how Apple allows you to upgrade your old two G. phone as well as the brand-new three G. phone. Unfortunately Apple hasn’t released 3.0 just yet it is only in the blueprint stages, but Apple is allowing developers some input into what goes into 3.0.

What features do you think Apple should include in the new 3.0 operating system?

I think a mobile cashpoint (laugh out loud). What do you think leave a comment.
